Thanks to everyone for the input on this discussion board. This is all some very helpful stuff!
I am a beginning shooter/editor, so all of the shared experience is most appreciated. If someone might have a moment to respond, I have a question. It is about Final Cut Pro and the Mac Powerbook I use (which is now 2 years old). Apple recently released an OS X update and my version of Final Cut Pro no longer is able to capture. Has anyone else heard of or run into this problem?

Thanks in advance,
Ted

I ran into this as well. I was on the phone with Apple about this and the only way to rectify it as far as I know is to do a re-install of everything. Unfortunately, just re-installing FCP doesn't do it, you have to re-install the OS, run your updates and re-install all your apps and run their updates as well.

Sorry for the bad news. Good luck!

Thanks very much, Sean!
From all of the message board stuff I came across, this sounded like the only resolution. But, it is very helpful having someone's trusted experience and input from this message board.
Oy! What a bummer. This seems about as major a flaw as could have been included in that OS update. I hope they learned something from it.
Well...on to the reinstalling and getting things back to normal.
Incidentally, the version of Final Cut I'll be replacing was a "borrowed" copy which I never registered or updated. Does this mean I'll need to purchase my own copy that I'll need to register and keep updated?

Thanks again,
Ted

Copyright your work! Technically, when you put something on video, it's copywritten, but you need to register the copyright to make it official and protect yourself and your work.

You can find instructions regarding registering your copyright along with all the forms right here:

Well, maybe yes, maybe no. I just read about this issue (dropped frames, actually), and it seems like there's an easy fix.

"When Apple recently released OSX 10.4.9 they changed something "under the hood" that broke capture with versions of Final Cut Pro earlier than FCP 5. Long story short, the solution is to go into the Spotlight preference pane, click the Privacy tab, then add your Capture Scratch folder(s) to the list. Doing so will prevent Spotlight indexing of your footage while you're capturing it, which is what was causing your problem with dropped frames."

In terms of actors, be sure to post on the Phildelphia Film Office Website (http://www.film.org)..., they also have a casting hotline for people to call.

Thanks for this tip Sean!

This message forum is great!
