Hey All, I finally secured a copy of Brief Encounter by David Lean (1946). Popularly considered Great Britain's #2 movie ever made, it hit the British Film Institutes top 10 in the 1950's. Based on a Noel Coward play and starring Trevor Howard and Celia Johnson, I felt this was an appropriate pick for this Valentine's month.
Lean is a great director (Great Expectations, Oliver Twist, The Bridge on the River Kwai, Lawrence of Arabia, Summertime, A Passage to India, Dr. Zhivago) and this film is one of his first.
Does it still work for a modern audience -- I look forward to hearing what you all think!
David
