This evening, join us at Symphony Space for two classic films that both won the Oscar for Best Foreign Film!
I've showed Black Orpheus a few times to my students whenever I teach the Greek myths. Here, the old love story of Orpheus and how he braves the Underworld to reclaim his dead wife gets a new spin with a Rio setting at Carnival time. Boisterous performances and bold colors make for a wonderful film. Can't wait to see it on the big screen!
I've never seen La Strada, but many say it's one of Fellini's best. Stars Anthony Quinn as a circus strongman who buys a waif played by Giulietta Masina.
Where and When:
Symphony Space is located on Broadway at West 95 Street, near "96 Street" on the 1,2, and 3 lines. Movies are shown at its Leonard Nimoy Theater, which is on West 95 Street, about a quarter way down the block. THIS is the lobby we will meet in.
Please purchase your own ticket and meet us in the smallish lobby by 6:30pm for the 7pm show. Please be on time so we can get good seats-it'll be a long (but good) night in those spots!
Admission: $11
